Medical Apps Recommendations for Medical Students

Assalamualaikum wrt.

Life in medical school can be quite challenging sometimes, especially when it comes to studying. No one can deny the fact that medical school is hard, especially when there are tonnes of information need to be crammed into our brain, and as normal as we are, we can’t remember everything.

Fortunately, as advanced as we are now as medical students with smartphones and all, there are these things called “apps” that can ease us in studying.

So here are few suggestions of free apps from Android and Apple that may help students to access information quicker and help in studies. Plus, not only for students, these things even help medical professionals too, especially during housemanship!

So in non-chronological order, feel free to check the suggestions below!

This app provides quick look at the up-to-date information on the most commonly used clinical laboratory values and other useful relevant information such as lab data in Microbiology, Physiology/Pathophysiology, Toxicology and etc.

Why to love: Provide dosage, good for differential diagnosis.

Medscape is the leading medical resource most used by physicians, medical students, nurses and other healthcare professionals for clinical information. This app features medical news, drugs prescriptions and interaction checker, diseases, condition and procedures as well as sections that include pathophysiology, epidemiology, differential diagnoses, workup, treatment, medication options and more.





3) Epocrates

Why to love: Quite similar with Medscape.





4) Standard Dictation

Why to love: Gives essential points to present and clerk cases.

Standard medical dictations for medical students and residents. Includes standard texts for histories, physicals, counseling, and procedures.





 


5) My Blue Book

Why to love: A must download for Malaysian professionals. It gives drugs formulation by MOH and KKM, and provides types of drugs we used in government hospital.

This app is not the official application of MOH Drug Formulary, and it was developed with intention to help medical students and medical professions in Malaysia to achieve better health care and provide convenient as a quick reference tool during their study/work. This app only available to android user in Malaysia only.








6) Medimonics

Why to love: Help us to remember medical facts easily by using mnemonics.

A database of more than 1500 medical mnemonics! With the help of this huge database, remember tough medical facts on your fingertips as rhymes, acronyms and other memory tricks. Includes mnemonics related to multiple disciplines.





7) Qx Calculate

Why to love: Virtual “calculator” to check prognosis, mortality, risk stratification etc. A must download!

Why to love: Quick look up for meaning of any medical eponyms.
